Studies and statistics on gender and research, points to the ‘work-family balance’ as one of the biggest conundrums facing several women in the profession. Time studies show that Men without children spend more time on research thereby accumulating more points than women. While Men with children share the same time as women without children on research and at the bottom of the pyramid are women with childen spend the least time on research. This certainly impacts their rate of publishing, project acquisition, network opportunities with detrimental implications for their career advancement and trajectory.
